It’s Pride Month (happy Pride)!
As a performer, human on this earth, and individual who has worked in the policy, human rights and legal field, Black Lives Matter! Here are (some) resources that I pulled together from organizations taking action for equality. Please note that this list is not exhaustive and won’t solve the deep roots of systemic racism that are embedded in American society since the first slaves were forced onto stolen land. I hope it is a start for necessary change…
I’m resharing this post from the BBC about Miss England, Bhasha Mukherjee -she’s a junior doctor, who is working during this coronavirus outbreak. I hope everyone is…… Read more “Junior Doctor Returns to Work After Representing Miss England in the Miss World Pageant (London).”
In this time of unimaginable chaos and global suffering, I have felt the need to turn off. I haven’t been able to write, draw, sing or create. I know that throughout other trying times in my life, I have always turned to different forms of Art to process what was happening around me. This is one of my all-time favorite poems. I hope it brings you peace. As always (and especially now), be (radically) kind~
It’s a bit bizarre (and terrifying) to realize that we are all living through a pandemic. As one of my friends said, “it’s like fighting with air”.
But during this time of high anxiety, self-quarantine and the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), be sure to take care of yourself and to think about those around you who are at a higher risk of contracting COVID-19. The Asian community (or anyone of Asian descent) is not responsible for spreading Coronavirus. Even if you are not (yet) showing symptoms, please remember that the elderly -their risk increases as their age increases, people with chronic medical conditions (heart disease, HIV/AIDS, lung disease and diabetes) and health care workers are at higher risk of contracting it.
Happy International Women’s Day 2020.
Stand up and question societal norms and expectations, stand with and for all of the females in your life…even try to stand up for the ones you don’t know personally. Listen to their stories, believe them. A lot of women have suffered in silence, there’s more behind that “pretty smile”. Be empathetic, be (radically) kind~
Como si fuera esta noche la ultima vez…
In the words of one of my lifelong idols Aaliyah, “If at first you don’t succeed (first you don’t succeed), dust yourself off, and try again, you can dust it off and try again, try again…”. I’ve had to keep this under wraps since January but I’m officially Reina Lady Colombia 2020 in the Reina Intercontinental Pageant! I’ll be heading to Costa Rica to compete.
Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day alone or with a loved one, take this day to practice unconditional self love. You can always treat yourself to something lovely too (like a few flowers, some sweet chocolates or a bubble bath with your favorite glass of wine). Spread the love!
No Miss should ever feel like she is sacrificing her dignity or moral integrity to win a crown -and please note, everyone’s moral compass is different. So…without further ado, here are a few pageant resources if you’re looking to take your first step into the pageant world!
Everyone keeps asking me about the pageant. What started as complete curiosity & a new goal when I learned about the competition (those goals included: challenging myself and my public speaking skills, performing again, meeting some interesting and like-minded women because… #YOLO), wellllll…it turned out to be all that and much more.
Blast off! Tomorrow I’ll be Miss Colombia in the final of the Miss Continental Europe Beauty Pageant.
1 days away!!! The pageant prep continues! I spent most of Saturday dress shopping and then I babysat my iki türk elmam (my two Turkish apples) in the evening. I babysat my two former students -who arrived dressed as bats for Halloween 🎃🦇 (I’m avoiding all of the bars/club scene & not drinking alcohol until after the pageant) so their mom & dad could have a “date night”.
I think one thing that has helped me to stay more calm (I can honestly say that I have had moments where my anxiety has completely kicked in and was through the roof) is that I have thought of this whole journey as if I were rehearsing for another role in a play…
